After Palazzo Bonomi-Gera,  Corso Vittorio Emanuele continues briefly towards the gate of the city. Along this route can be found the Diocesan Seminary and the Church of Santa Chiara, rich with paintings dating to the 1700’s and home of the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art of Ripatransone , which is part of the  network of Sistine Museums of the Piceno region.

The Agello City Gate

In front of the church stands the Palazzo Rotigni and the bell tower of San Benigno. Restored in the nineteenth century, it is the only remaining  trace of an ancient Gothic church that served as the original cathedral of  Ripatransone.
Overlooking the last stretch of the main street is the Palazzo Benvegnati,  the family home of heroine  Donna Bianca de Tharolis.  Another point of interest is the house of  Luigi Mercantini, who complied with Garibaldi’s request to compose a hymn that contains the famous lines: “Si scopron le tombe si levano i morti, i martiri nostri sono tutti risorti” (“The graves are uncovered, the dead are removed, our martyrs have all been resurrected”).
This neighborhood is called Agello, a name which derives from the Latin ager, and refers to a type of agricultural terrain. The name Agello is also linked to the Church of Santa Maria to the gate of the city. This large gate, with its guard tower and remaining walls, is now situated at the center of the beltway, while the church is at the border of the park of Monterone, where the street ends.  Moving toward the end of this green area, one can enjoy  the panorama that, when viewed from the sea, follows the valley of the Menocchia, a river that  leads to Cupra Marittima. Today, this river is a small stream, yet years ago it was a dangerous enough body of water that Ascanio Condivi, friend and biographer of Michelangelo Buonarroti, met his demise while attempting to cross it.
