The Rosso Piceno Road runs along the border of the territory of Ripatransone, connecting Acquaviva Picena and Offida. To reach this road from the center of Ripatransone, one must descend to the Valtesino from the San Rustico Road and climb up to the hamlet of San Savino. Following the straightest course, this road offers views of the verdant rural landscape in all its splendour. Throughout the hillsides, the cultivated fields blend harmoniously with the wilder chaparral, conferring a picture of harmony between man and nature.
San Savino is a small hamlet of Ripatransone and one of the farthest from the center of the town. For several years now, urban initiatives have been concentrated in this area, resulting in the creation of various new housing complexes and public structures. Passing through the area, and reaching the crossroad for Acquaviva, to the right, we take the Rosso Piceno road that leads to Offida, and which lends its name to one of the typical products of the territory (Rosso Piceno wine). About 1 kilometer from the hamlet, to the left, we find a rugged road where several of the most interesting wineries of the territory rise above; parts of these wineries are located in the territory of Offida. The Poderi Capecci winery is in the territory of Ripatransone. This winery produces several important wines: Rosso Piceno Quinta Regio, and Pecorino Ciprea. Following along the Rosso Piceno road just a few more minutes, we find the Messieri rural school to the right. This is a distinctive structure often found in the territory of Ripatransone. In fact, other similar schools can be found along the Valtesino, in San Giuseppe, San Michele, and Petrella. Located above the school is a new winery that takes its name from the family of cultivators in a long-standing tradition, Villa Grifoni. The structure offers a 360° panorama, with an extraordinary view of the entire town. Just ahead on the right, we find the Cantina Cocci Grifoni, which boasts a lengthy wine tradition. It contains vineyards that are not only optimally positioned, but also aesthetically enriched with roses planted at the head of each row of grapevines. This winery produces all of the DOC wines of the territory, including Superior Rosso Piceno, with the use of traditional procedures and storage in oak barrels. Moving onward, to the right, we find one of the many white roads of the territory of Ripatransone, which leads to the Valtesino road. This somewhat rugged road is ideal for those who want to see the countryside of Ripatransone up close. Along this road, we find the small Perozzi winery, which demonstrates all the dynamism of the wine sector of Ripatransone. Once back onto the Valtesino road, we can return to Ripatransone by the San Rustico road or by the Fonte Antica (Ancient Fountain) country road, slightly more to the west. This road was called “de lu otte” (of the eight), in the dialect of Ripatransone, due to its hairpin turns which, seen from above the city walls, create the figure eight. This rather torturous course also allows us to admire more renowned badlands, less steep than those of San Rustico, that stand out at the end of the hills, covered by vineyards and sunflowers.
